Volunteers & Staffing FAQ

We want to help. If your answer isn't here, reach out. We will gladly hop on a call and help you in any way we can. We mean it when we say we want your season to be full of "Minutes that Matter."

Who runs the scoreboard?

Short answer: Anyone can run it in under 2 minutes.

ClockSynk is designed for:

A parent

A high school player earning service hours

A board member

A coach’s spouse

A teenager at the table

No sports knowledge required.
No software installation.
No special equipment.

We recommend:

Each team assigns one volunteer per game.

Or the hosting program assigns two table volunteer per field.

We've seen program use the revenue they make from using the ads to hire high school lacrosse players to track stats

We already struggle with volunteers.

You do not need a new volunteer pool.

You use the one you already have — differently.

Many programs have found success by working on a simple rotation model:

Home team runs first half

Away team runs second half

Or each team assigns one parent per game

No one owns it full-time.
No board member absorbs it permanently.

It’s a shared, per-game micro role.

Most programs start with one field and rotate by team.

We can't manage another thing.

You don’t.

Use one of these deployment models:

Model 1: Parent Rotation

Each team assigns one volunteer per game.

Model 2: High School Stat Crew

Use sponsor revenue to hire:

1–2 high school players per field

Offer service hours or small stipends

This improves stat accuracy and removes parent burden.

Model 3: Sponsor-Funded Operator

Sell one $750 sponsor slot.

That covers:

Platform cost

2–3 paid stat crew members

Now it’s not a volunteer issue — it’s a funded role.

People don’t volunteer unless we beg.

Correct.

Open calls rarely work.

Coach-directed asks do.

Instead of:
“Can anyone help with the scoreboard?”

Use:

“Hey Mark, would you run the clock for us Saturday? When the stats are accurate, it really helps me make my practice plans so much better for the kids because I can see what we need to work on based on the data.”

When a coach asks and explains the real value directly, participation increases dramatically.

People respond when they feel they contribution is valuable— not recruited.

What exactly does the volunteer do?

Game Clock Operator

Start clock

Adjust score

Record stats

End game

That’s it.

20-minute commitment - all from your phone or iPad.

No installation.
No special equipment.
No long-term responsibility.

Defined task. Defined time. Done.

Can you train people?

Yes.

We can come to your meeting, we can do a zoom session. We can come on site for a day and get you going.

We also in the process of planning some training days with Play It Again Sports in Cranberry to host in-person training sessions and demos at their store.

Here’s how it works:

We schedule a 60-minute live training session.

Parents, coaches, and board members attend.

We walk through running a live game in real time.

Everyone practices on their own phone.

No laptops.
No complicated setup.
No technical background required.

We host live training sessions tailored to your event/program needs

What happens after training?

After one live session:

Volunteers understand the interface in minutes.

Programs can assign a “Scoreboard Captain” per field.

No ongoing tech management is required.

Most volunteers feel comfortable after running one demo game.

What if they mess it up?

There is no permanent damage.

It updates instantly.

Corrections take seconds.

The system resets each game.

No data loss risk.

The fear of “breaking something” is removed.

We already run concessions, field setup, and registration.

Running a digital clock from a phone is simpler than:

Running a snack stand

Managing raffles

Lining fields

If a program can staff concessions, it can staff a scoreboard.

We want better stats but don’t have manpower.

That’s exactly why the High School Stat Crew model exists.

Instead of overworking parents:

Empower older players.

Create a “Stat Crew” badge or shirt.

Make it part of your program identity.

It becomes developmental, not operational.

Use one sponsor to fund a stat crew.

Can we start small?

Yes.

Many programs start with:

Championship day only

Tournament weekend only

Rivalry games only

Once parents see the value, adoption spreads naturally.

Still Unsure?

Start With One Field

You don’t need a full rollout.

Run ClockSynk on:

One field

One weekend

One championship day

No long-term commitment.
No staffing overhaul.

Just one controlled test.
